The ESFNA Ethiopian Soccer Event Was a Huge Success!

Last week Friends of Fresh and Green Academy had a booth at the Ethiopian  Soccer Federation of North America (ESFNA) soccer tournament at the University of Maryland’s Byrd Stadium. The event was a huge success and we were able to raise over $3,000. for the women and children of Fresh and Green Academy!

This was the 30 year anniversary of the event and it was jam packed with first rate Ethiopian entertainment, including Teddy Afro!

The ESFNA staff was so helpful and pulled off an amazing celebration!

This year’s theme was Female Empowerment, and we were able to do our part to help empower our mothers economically by selling their crafts and special t-shirts. We still have some shirts available and if you make a donation of $25 or more, we will send one to you.

We also held a raffle for an iPad mini and the winner hailed from Alexandria, Virginia. Thank you to all who stopped by and helped us to make a difference in so many lives.

International volunteers Teach English, Basic IT And Art

International volunteers Teach English, Basic IT And Art

For the first time, student-run organization AIESEC and Microsoft connect to help children at Fresh & Green Academy in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. AIESEC is an international NGO organizing social issues development projects all over the world.

With the financial help of Microsoft, people from AIESEC developed a project to provide international volunteers to teach English, basic IT and art for children from Fresh & Green Academy.

The project was launched in November 2011 with two volunteers. Veronika from Czech republic is teaching theatre  and Sandra from Kenya is teaching English lessons.

We are expecting two more interns from The Netherlands and Estonia to come in January to teach English and basic IT.

Thank you AIESEC and Microsoft for making a difference in the lives of the impoverished students of Fresh and Green Academy.
